Kamjel Canyon

Necessary Equipment:

Harness, helmet, descender, jumar, carabiners, canyoning rope (static rope), slings, canyoning backpack, canyoning apparel, sleeping bag, trekking poles, and trekking boots.

Description:

Canyoning is an exciting and adventurous activity, and on this trip, we will explore one of the most beautiful and spectacular canyons in northern Iran.

For this trip, we carefully check the weather forecast in advance, as descending into the canyon during rainy conditions can be extremely dangerous. Group size is also very important for safety, and each group should consist of no more than seven people.

Number of Major Waterfalls: 20 waterfalls ranging from 5 meters to 60 meters in height.

Day 01: Arrival in Tehran

After welcoming you at Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport, we will transfer you to your hotel in the city center. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a full-day sightseeing tour of Tehran, including the Traditional Bazaar, the National Museum of Iran, the Glassware and Ceramic Museum, and Niavaran Palace. Overnight at the hotel. Bed & Breakfast (B&B).

Day 02: Tehran – Karaj – Chalous Road

At 6:00 AM, we begin our journey from Tehran via the scenic Tehran–Karaj–Chalous Road.

After approximately one and a half hours, we stop for breakfast in Pol-e Khab. This area is a well-known rock climbing destination near Tehran, featuring cliffs up to 150 meters high and attracting climbers during spring and summer.

We continue through the Kandovan Tunnel and enter the lush northern region of Iran. After the tunnel, the landscape changes dramatically as forests replace the dry terrain. We pass the Siah Bishe Dam area, for which we have already obtained the necessary permits.

Near a small shrine, we begin our trek through the forest. After two hours of hiking uphill, we reach the magnificent canyon.

Since there is no suitable flat area for camping before the first campsite, we stop here for lunch, check all equipment, and waterproof our belongings inside our backpacks.

The leader sets up the anchors and descends first. The group follows one by one, and the last person retrieves the rope.

In some places, we use tree trunks as natural anchors, while in others, permanent bolts have been installed. Winter floods may damage some of these anchors, requiring replacement.

After a challenging and exciting descent, we reach our first campsite.

We collect firewood and prepare a campfire. Dinner includes delicious chicken and beef kebabs.

The weather is cool, but a tent is usually not necessary. The campsite is peaceful and offers an excellent night's rest.

Day 03: Waterfall Tour and Transfer to Roudbarak

We wake up at 6:00 AM, enjoy breakfast, waterproof our belongings, and begin the second day of canyoning.

The first waterfall of the day is 40 meters high. The water feels cold in the morning, but after a few minutes of activity, you quickly warm up.

Large waterfalls require extra caution and teamwork. Around midday, we reach the highest waterfall in the canyon, standing 60 meters tall. For these major descents, we use bolts or pitons as anchors.

In some sections, short swims are required after descending, though the water is generally not very deep.

At approximately 5:00 PM, we complete the canyon and reach Chalous Road, where our driver will be waiting.

We then continue to Roudbarak, the gateway to Mt. Alamkouh (4,850 m). After about one hour, we arrive in Kelardasht for dinner and then proceed to the Mountaineering Federation Guest House in Roudbarak for the night.

Day 04: Climbing and Trekking Tour – Sarchal Shelter (3,950 m)

After breakfast, we drive to Barir, the starting point for the trek to Alamkouh via the Alamchal area.

Our main luggage is carried by mules, while we hike with light daypacks containing lunch and beverages.

The scenic trek to Sarchal Shelter takes approximately four hours.

After a short rest, we take a one-hour acclimatization hike to nearby peaks.

In the evening, we enjoy hot soup and local food before preparing for the summit attempt. Overnight at Sarchal Shelter.

Day 05: Alamkouh Summit Day (4,850 m)

We wake up at 4:00 AM, have breakfast, and begin our summit ascent with daypacks containing lunch and drinks.

We first trek to the Alamchal area, which serves as the base for the Siah Sang route, the Big Wall, and the German Flank.

After climbing a steep section, we rest briefly at the small steel hut in Siah Sang.

Approximately five hours after departure, we reach the summit of Alamkouh (4,850 m).

From the summit, we enjoy panoramic views over the Takht-e Soleyman region and its surrounding peaks.

After a short rest, we descend via the same route to Sarchal Shelter, which takes about three hours.

After this rewarding day, we enjoy a hearty dinner and an overnight at the shelter.

Day 06: Return to Tehran

After a relaxed morning and a delicious breakfast, our luggage is loaded onto mules.

We descend gradually to Barir and drive back to the Mountaineering Federation Guest House in Roudbarak.

After a shower and lunch, we return to Tehran.

Overnight at the hotel.

Day 07: Departure

At the scheduled time, the group will be transferred to Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport for your return flight home.
