Description:

Takht-e Soleyman is one of the best mountaineering regions in Iran. It is located in northern Iran, close to the Caspian Sea, and offers exceptional weather conditions during the summer months. The most famous peak in the Takht-e Soleyman range is Alamkouh.

Alamkouh (4,850 m) is the second-highest peak in Iran. There are several routes to reach its summit. For those who prefer trekking and non-technical mountaineering, the southern face via the Hesarchal Route is the best option. Another excellent route is the Siah Sang Route, which involves some scrambling before reaching the summit.

For technical climbers, the world-famous Alamkouh Big Wall offers an unforgettable challenge. This 450-meter vertical granite wall features multiple climbing routes of varying difficulty. Less experienced climbers can choose the German Flank, which offers moderate rock climbing. This route was first opened by two German climbers and was later named the German Flank.

Damavand (5,671 m) is the highest peak in Iran. While most climbers and tourists ascend via the crowded southern route, this itinerary uses the beautiful northern face. This route is quieter, more scenic, and avoids the sulfur fumes commonly encountered on the southern side.

Day 01: Arrival in Tehran

After arriving at Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel in the city center. After resting, you will have time to explore Tehran, including its famous bazaar and museums. Overnight at the hotel. Bed & Breakfast (B&B).

Day 02: Caspian Sea and Kelardasht

Early in the morning, we drive along the scenic Chalous Road, which connects Tehran to the Caspian Sea. This mountain road is one of the most beautiful in Iran and is a popular destination for picnics.

After approximately four hours, we arrive in Kelardasht, a popular summer resort town known for its cool climate and picturesque surroundings.

We enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, where you may try fresh Caspian Sea fish. In the afternoon, we check into the Mountaineering Federation Guest House. The area offers beautiful mountain views, and you may take a walk along the river or enjoy a light forest hike. Dinner and overnight at the guest house. Full Board (F/B).

Day 03: Trek to Alamchal Camp

At 7:00 AM, we wake up, have breakfast, and prepare a small daypack with lunch and beverages.

A 30-minute jeep ride takes us to Vandarbon, where the muleteer will carry our main luggage.

We begin trekking with magnificent views in all directions. After approximately four hours, we reach Sarchal Shelter (3,200 m), where we rest and have lunch.

After a two-hour break, we continue toward the Alamchal area. Following an additional one and a half hours of trekking, we arrive at our campsite at approximately 4,000 meters, directly in front of the impressive Alamkouh Big Wall.

We pitch our tents and prepare our climbing equipment for the following day. Full Board (F/B).

Day 04: Alamkouh Climbing Day

We wake up at 5:00 AM, have breakfast, and begin our climb.

After about one hour, we reach the German Flank on the north face of Alamkouh. We put on our harnesses and helmets and begin climbing.

After approximately 45 minutes, rope protection becomes necessary. Along the route, there are some fixed pitons, but we also use cams and nuts for protection.

The route is moderately technical, and the guide leads each pitch while belaying the rest of the team.

At one point, we traverse left and enjoy stunning views of the Spilet Glacier more than 300 meters below.

The final section is especially exciting, and after completing it, a short 15-minute walk brings us to the summit of Alamkouh (4,850 m).

After enjoying the panoramic views, we descend via the Siah Sang Route and return to camp in approximately two hours. Overnight in tents. Full Board (F/B).

Day 05: Trek to Nandal Village

After breakfast, we descend from camp while the muleteer carries our main luggage.

We return along the same trekking route to Roudbarak. After a shower, we continue to Kelardasht and enjoy lunch. If time permits, we may have lunch by the Caspian Sea, where you can also take a swim.

We then continue along the coast and travel via Haraz Road to Nandal Village, the starting point for the northern route to Mt. Damavand.

Overnight at the Nandal Mountaineering Shelter (2,500 m). Full Board (F/B).

Day 06: Trek to Damavand High Camp

Early in the morning, we have breakfast and drive to the trailhead.

After handing over the main loads, we begin trekking toward the first hut, which takes approximately three hours.

From there, we climb a steep slope for about one hour and stop at the first hut (4,000 m) for lunch and rest.

Because we are already well acclimatized from Alamkouh, we continue to the second hut at 4,600 meters.

The final section crosses rocky terrain and takes approximately two hours.

The nights at this altitude are very cold, so a warm sleeping bag and proper clothing are essential. Full Board (F/B).

Day 07: Damavand Summit Day

We wake up at 5:00 AM and, after a light breakfast, begin our summit ascent.

The climb typically takes about five hours along a steep but beautiful route.

The summit features a large volcanic crater, and on the eastern side, you can observe sulfur fumes that confirm Damavand's status as a semi-active volcano.

After taking photographs and enjoying the views, we descend via the same route. The descent to the hut takes approximately two hours.

We celebrate our successful ascent and spend the night at the hut. Full Board (F/B).

Day 08: Reserve Day

This day is reserved in case of bad weather on either Alamkouh or Damavand.

If the reserve day is not needed, an alternative sightseeing or trekking program will be arranged.

Day 09: Return to Tehran

After a restful morning, we descend gradually and drive back to Nandal Village.

After changing clothes, we continue along Haraz Road, stopping for lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Tehran.

Overnight at the hotel.

Day 10: Departure

Transfer to Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport for your return flight home.

If the reserve day was not required, an alternative activity would have been provided during the itinerary.
