Description:

Takht-e-Suleiman is one of the best mountaineering areas in Iran. It’s located in the north of Iran, close to the Caspian Sea. In summer we have amazing weather in these areas. The most famous peak in the Takht-e-Suleiman range is called Alamkouh.

Alamkouh (4850m) is the second-highest peak in Iran. For climbing Alamkouh you have many choices, if you like normal trekking and mountaineering, a south face called the Hesarchal route is your best choice. But you can also climb from the Siahsang route and with a little scrambling you reach the summit. For technical climbers, we recommend Alamkouh Big Wall that famous in the entire world. You climb a 450m vertical granite wall with different levels and routes. But if you are not so professional you can climb the German Flank and the climbing rate is moderate rock climbing. The first time two German climbers opened this route and later it’s called Germans Flank.

Damavand (5671m) is the highest peak in Iran and most Iranian mountaineers and also tourists climb from the south route which is very crowded in summer, but we want to climb from the north face. It’s very beautiful and interesting and you will not suffer from sulfur smoke like in the south route.

Day 1: Arrival - Tehran

After welcoming you to Tehran International Airport, you will be transferred by a guide to the Hotel in the center of Tehran. After resting in the hotel you have time to visit Tehran especially the Bazaar and some museums. Overnight hotel, Bed/ Breakfast.

Day 2: Caspian Sea

Early morning we drive by car through Chlous Road that connects Tehran to the Caspian Sea. This road is mountainous and one of the favorite places many people like to have picnics beside it. After 4 hours of driving, we are in Kelardasht City. Kelardasht with its cool weather in summer is a touristy city in Iran and you see many villas in all around the city.

We have lunch in the restaurant (especially Caspian Sea fishes) and then we stay at the Mountaineering Federation Guest House. This place has a good view of the surrounding mountains and evening you can walk beside a river or do some light trekking inside the forest and take pictures of this area from the uphills. We have dinner in the Mountaineering Federation Guest House and prepare our staff for tomorrow. F/B

Day 3: Trekking Day

7 AM we wake up eat our breakfast and take a small backpack including a lunch box and some beverages for trekking way to Sarchal shelter. By Jeep, we drive 30 minutes to Vandarbon, and the muleteer waiting for us after handing over our heavy backpacks starts trekking with beautiful views on all sides of us.

After 4 hours we reach Sarchal shelter (3200m) and stay over there for two hours to rest and have lunch. Then we continue to the Alamchal area and after one and a half hours we are in a camping place in front of Alamkouh big wall (4000m). We fix our tent and later control the equipment we need for tomorrow. F/B

Day 4: Climbing Day

5 AM we wake up have breakfast and start the climbing. After one hour, we are on the German Flank Path north face of Alamkouh. We wear harnesses and helmets and start normal rock climbing. After 45 minutes we need to use rope and should climb by belying.

In route, there are some pitons but we using Friend and Shaft in cracks. The route is not very technical and the maximum level is 9a+. In some parts, you see old plastic ropes but we never use them and the expert guide climbs the first one and bellying others. After two hours we turn to the left side and if you look down you see Spilet Glacier and you are about 300 meters upper than glacier.

The last part of the route is very interesting and when you finish, after 15 minutes you are at the top of Alamkouh(4850m). We rest for a while and return to our camp through the Siahsang route. In two hours we reach camp and enjoy our climbing. F/B

Day 5: Trekking

8 o’clock we descend from our camp and leave the staff for the muleteer to carry down and from the same trekking route we come back to Roudbarak and after taking a shower we go to Kelardasht and have lunch in the restaurant or if you will be patient we can have lunch beside the Caspian Sea and also you can swim in the sea shore. We continue our trip beside the shore and via Haraz road we go to Nandal village. Haraz is another way from Tehran to the Caspian Sea and Nandal is the base of climbing the North face of Damavand. We stay overnight in Nandal mountaineering shelter (2500m). F/B

Day 6: Trekking Day

Early morning we eat breakfast and go by car to the start point. We handed over the loads and began normal trekking towards the first hut, which would take 3 hours. Near the hut, we have a steep slope for one hour and we stay in the first Hut (4000m) for lunch and rest. Because we already acclimatized in Alamkouh we continued to the second Hut at 4600 meters. We pass rocks and in two hours we reach the second Hut.

At night this area is very cold and you should have a good sleeping bag and warm apparel. F/B

Day 7:

5 AM we wake up and after a light breakfast, we ascend. Normally it takes 5 hours with a steep route but you should know that it’s so beautiful you will not remember when you reach the summit. The summit has a big volcano bowl and on the east side, you can see sulfur smoke which shows that Damavand is a semi-active volcano mountain. We take pictures and descend from the same route. It takes two hours till Hut and we celebrate our climbing in Hut. We stay overnight in Hut. F/B

Day 8: Alamkouh or Damavand

One day we will have extra as a reserve for probably bad weather in Alamkouh or Damavand.

Day 9: Nandal Village

After enough rest slowly we descent and we went to Nandal village by car and changed our clothes on Haraz road we stopped for lunch in the restaurant and came back to Tehran. We stay overnight in the Hotel.

Day 10: Departure
